The front nine on the Pumpherston Course are a nice build up to the remaining nine. Made up of some fairly short par 3s and 4s, the challenge here is to avoid the carefully placed bunkers while heading for the USPGA standard greens. Once on the back nine the challenge increases starting with the 10th which is a long par 5. Here you will find water coming into play more with the par 3, 13th requiring you to clear a pond on your approach. The equal mix of each par on the return to the clubhouse will ensure that your interest remains piqued until the final green.
Half an hour outside of Edinburgh city centre off the M8, just east of Livingston.
The weather has not been great over the last few days but it has not been that bad! The first (newer) 10 holes were in a very poor condition. Even though we were taking the balls to the sides of the fairways it was almost impossible to find a dry piece of ground to play from. The fairways were soaking wet and very muddy. Trousers, carts and clubs were filthy after the first hole. This was a shame as all the greens were excellent and holes 11-17 were in good condition. I have played this course in the summer and it is great fun with a number of really interesting holes but I would not recommend anyone to play it in winter.
