    Such lovely windy day

Everything was marvelous, great hospitality, tidying and perfect in all details... thanks to making me feel like a champion golfer during an Irish open. Unfortunately I can't visit properly the mansion, library and rooms... there was a lot story around.

    O'Meara Course

This is one of my favourite courses to play every year. The view from the 13th tee is something else. My favourite holes are the 14th ,15th & 16th, in what what I like to call my Amen Corner. I recommend this golf course to any golfer.

    Top parkland course

Great course and a decent challenge. It's fairly open for the most part off the tee so the key is with an iron in hand for the most part. Greens had recently been scraped and sanded when we played but other than that in great condition. A nice mix of challenging holes and opportunities. And what a fantastic piece of land Carton House is on!

    Ridiculous

Brother-in-law over from American so booked a four ball on the Monty Course. On the morning rang Course to see if it was open (storm from previous night and very strong wind blowing). Was advised Course was open so teed off at 09.10hrs. The Course was very wet, bunkers were full with water and the ball would not stop on the Greens. As one of the group was a visitor persisted for 7 holes then gave up. No way course should have opened, but as I prepaid, they obviously did nor want to refund. Wanted to complain to Pro Shop, but partners just wanted to get into cars and leave. Have written separately to Carton to complain. A joke.

    Avoid the bunkers!

Course in good condition. Bunkers everywhere and tough to get out of. Hard to avoid them. Not many memorable holes. Most of them seemed to merge into each other. Long walk to and from first and last holes so give yourself plenty of time to get to the tee. Staff helpful in offering earlier tee time.

Montgomery Course is a challenge for any golfer

Difficult but enjoyable course. Bunkers are very challenging. Definitely worth the extra spend over the average pay and play courses. Staff were very friendly and they ensured that the pace of play was good. Course was not too crowded and we were able to book a tee time less than 24 hours in advance.

    2nd attempt deemed a must

The truth of it all is that I am really not able to rate this course in a serious manner. I arrived late as neither my GPS (fairly new actually and rather expensive) or Google Maps could find the course an consequently didn't really have time to go to the range which is a little far away. However, the nice lady at the check-in counter ensured me that I didn't need to stick to my tee time. Given the weather conditions (gale winds and pouring down in truck loads) I was likely to be the sole player on the course. Naturally that made me think, but then again... my green fee was prepaid and non refundable. End of the story is that after having been to the practice range and played the first two holes I was soaked to the bones despite wearing state of the art rain gear. At the end of fourth hole my teeth were clattering and by the green on fifth I had to throw in the towel. Anyway, from what I managed to see and play the course appears too be fantastic and despite the over abundance of bunkers the design appears always to leave you an option for an alternative approach. Club house and service - impeccable.

    Monty Was Magnificent

Played both O'Meara and Montgomerie on the same day. The latter trumps the former, which is why it was the venue for the Irish Open. Mastering Monty is all about staying out of the fairway bunkers. They are a factor in almost every shot. The green side bunkers are immaculately maintained and very deep. This is what distinguishes Monty from O'Meara. Hit an errant shot and there is a penalty. Monty's greens are large, subtle but very fair and true. Very useful to play with a local. Even with GPS and a yardage book, knowing what to shoot at and what to avoid is not always apparent. A wonderful course; put it on your play list for Ireland.

    Good course- bad yardage markings

Overall a nice course Very poor marking of yardage all around the course and had to guess yards a few times as there was none around which was frustrating. Greens in ok conditions Fairways seem to have a problem with burrowing animals, ball went into one of these holes on 3 different fairways

    Excellent layout with punishing traps

I found the Monty to be a demanding but enjoyable test of golf. Lots of bunkering make most of the tee shots challenging and the cost of finding the traps meant advancing your second shot only far enough as to almost definitely ensure bogey.mostly elevated greens require good approach shots and I was very impressed with the short surfaces and all the really subtle breaks that turned my normally guaranteed 2 putts into 3.wonderful golf course

    How the mighty have fallen

This course was in very poor condition. Divots all over the place, old divots not filled in - add to that a lot of mucky conditions following inclement weather. The greens also seemed to have a disease as there were round patches on many of them. My group of 4 would have been furious had they paid more than €30. Even at that price it was very poor value.

Perfectly maintained, challenging course with beautiful clubhouse & changing rooms.

Played this course for the 2nd time on Sunday. My first impression from my first round in 2012 were not good but that was more due to my poor golf than the course itself! Having been at Carton House for the 2013 Irish Open and seeing first hand the perfect condition of the course, I had to return & my second round was very enjoyable. A beautiful course which requires excellent course management, a tidy short game and the greens are very difficult. The clubhouse & facilities are immaculate. Thoroughly enjoyable but probably best avoided for higher handicappers as it could prove to be a long walk spoiled....and covered in sand.

    A lot of Hype

Was disappointed with this course. The course is well maintained, however the greens weren't the best. It is a difficult course in that the rough presents a challenge ( in finding your ball mainly, as its not too hard to play out of) with a lot of bunkers on your drives. The layout is very straightforward with little variation, and no hole worthy of 'Signature Hole Status', as a result the course feels a bit bland. Overall a little disappointed as was expecting more from a course that was awarded an Irish Open recently

Challenging course, that tests many shots in the bag

Playing off the back sticks made this course more challenging than normal. Nearly every drive be it par 4 or 5 ran the risk of bunkers at the landing area, but worth taking them on as laying up short meant an extremely long approach shot to the green, if you happened to get fairway bunker trouble then you would have to take your medicine and loft it out! Greens are very challenging but also great to play on, rarely if ever a straight putt and pace is essential, pot bunkers around the green can go very deep also. As luck would have it the wind was up this day, which meant some holes were very long into the fan! Overall I really enjoyed my round of golf on this course and look forward to playing it again soon!!

    A fantastic course to play

This is a beautiful course to play. 4hrs for a two-ball on a sunny October Sunday. Very challenging fairways with a huge amount of very deep bunkers to challenge both mid-range and long-range hitters. Got a great deal through GolfNow, €40 per person. The tee boxes were as good as I have seen and would rival some greens on other courses. The greens themselves were in great condition and would provide a challenge to the most accomplished of putters. Overall a fantastic course that I would certainly play again, only hopefully better next time.

Carton House, Montgomerie Course - Dublin, Ireland

Really cool place to play golf and enjoy your day. The greens and bunkers were in excellent condition and the half-way house was a perfectly placed distraction in my round. The back nine was more difficult than the front with more memorable holes. Par threes were very tough, long and well bunkered. This place gets my two thumbs up and I believe it's worth your time and money.
