Course Information

When opened in 1900, and altered by Dr Alister Mackenzie in 1913, the course was predominantly a heathland design. Since then further improvements have been made to this championship course with the addition of trees and water to give it a much more dominating parkland feel. Along with the inclusion of the aforementioned water, a recent bunker-refurbishment programme has further enhanced the challenge posed by the course and positional play should be top of the agenda. Once on the short stuff the course is thoroughly enjoyable with first-rate conditions and large receptive greens to play from, giving a chance of some low scoring. Being the home of the PGA in Yorkshire Open Championship, as well as having what are considered to the best four finishing holes in Yorkshire, it is easy to see why this championship course is considered one of the finest in Yorkshire.

    Excellent value for money

Got this on a great deal from GolfNow. Once you get your head around holes 3,4,5 and 6, which cross each other, then it's an excellent course. Fairways and greens in great condition. Some really nice holes and a very challenging par 3 190yard downhill to finish. Told the course was "very busy" by the pro but had no problems with people waiting behind us and we only caught the 4 ball junior comp in front on the 17th. This shows they are happy to sacrifice money over giving you enough time to get away before letting others follow. Had an issue wit one of my clubs during my round and the pro took it to one side and re-glued it while I had a pint. No charge!!!! Nothing to complain about and plenty to celebrate with this gem!!!! Will definately be back! Well done everyone.

    Compact Course

The course was in reasonably good condition with some greens hollow tined and sanded at time of playing reducing the overall rating. Professional shop staff very pleasant and helpful.
