Burnham & Berrow Golf Club was founded in 1890 and over its first 30 years a host of renowned golf architects have played a part in its layout. The club's first professional was JH Taylor, who was also keeper of the greens. Alison & Fowler were both members and helped improve the layout with Mackenzie also playing a role. However, overall it is thought the main design can largely be attributed to Harry Colt. Rather uniquely a church is located amongst the holes, and due to its presence they have had to be altered over the years to protect the faithful congregation from any wayward balls. After stepping off the links you can relax in the clubhouse that dates back to 1910. The focal points of the clubhouse are the spacious lounge and bar that overlook the course, ideal for watching the sun setting behind the dunes.
With a number of well-known golf architects adding their signature touches to this course it is easy to see why it has gained such a great reputation. The course is regularly used as an Open Championship qualifying venue and is always sure to finish in all Top 50 courses in the UK.
