Having played the course, it becomes clear why "Fore!" Magazine included Painswick in its Guide to the 100 Must Play Courses in the British Isles, and why the course was ranked 7th in "Britain's 100 Extraordinary Golf Holes" (Harvey and Strowger, AP Press 2003). Not forgetting that Peter McEvoy, after playing in an international "Ryder Cup" style match here, declared that he would include two of the holes (6th and 11th) in his world best 18. The course itself is a ridgetop course and requires quite a technical approach to achieve a good score. Although it is devoid of bunkers, grass-filled quarries and tight lies will put your shot accuracy to the test.
Painswick Golf Club is located just over 4 miles North of Stroud easily accessible via the A46.
Didn't realise that the course was on the Cotswold Way, full of walkers, dogs and horses, all of whom seemed oblivious to the dangers that may occur with golf. I wouldn't want to play in summer when the course was busy, too many cross over holes many of which had blind spots.
