The 18 holes at Stoneham Golf Club are the handy work of Willie Park Jnr who has put his name to the likes of Sunningdale, Montrose and Gullane. A combination of both heathland and parkland course mean you are treated to the best of both worlds at Stoneham. Tree-lined fairways and well-bunkered holes give the sense of a great parkland course, while the undulating fairways and inclusion of the natural landscape are of a more heathland nature. The course offers up some good birdie chances, such as the 106 yard, 16th and drivable par 4, 13th.
Perfectly located just north of Southampton city, minutes from the M3, M27 junction.
Difficult course with big slopes, deep rough just off the fairway in places and some poorly designed bunkers which allow the ball to run through into deep heather on the face or top. Some nice holes but others are very odd and while members will get to knew how to play them for visitors they will be a real challenge. As we walked off the 18th a group of members suggested we needed a medal for completing the course as they felt it was so difficult.
