Wirral Golf Club

Club Information

Now open to both sexes, Wirral Golf Club was formed in 1894 by the female family members of Royal Liverpool as somewhere for them to play. It was designed by Harry Hilton, a local golfer who won The Open twice in the 1890s and is laid out on a delightful area of Wirral heathland. With excellent drainage on to sandstone, Wirral stays in excellent condition year round and is the closest course to Liverpool city centre.

Our View

The area of heathland on which the Wirral course has been designed is simply majestic, and it is rare you find a course of this length that is kept in such good condition. Playing here can be a great leveller for those who don’t hit the ball quite as far off the tee and the shorter playing time is a real bonus if you enjoy a quicker round. It is a fantastic alternative to some of the bigger name links courses in the area and a lot more affordable.
