Course Information

The Par 70, 18 hole championship golf course is just a stones throw from the sea on the Suffolk coast and its challenging 6,421 yard course will test golfers of all abilities. Its superb condition and sand based fairways and greens ensure playability all year round. There will be some very memorable holes at Thorpeness Golf Club, especially when the course has picturesque surroundings, such as a view of a windmill and Thorpeness’ famous “House in the Clouds” at the finishing 18th hole. The signature 3rd Hole, 394 yards from the back tees, is a sweeping dogleg left, round the Meare and past a well-bunkered approach to a severely sloping and fast running green.

    Green not in great nick

Overall 7 out of 10. The greens were not in great condition due to recent weather. They were in needs of some green grass and were pretty damp. There was one green on temp which we wasn't informed about meaning we had incorrect yardage. Tee boxes are not particularly appealing, probably 2/3 nice ones. Was stuck behind a 4 ball of two men and two ladies from the 1st tee and they finally let us through (two ball) at the 16th tee.

Should be in the English top 100

Lovely heathland course, the equal of nearby Woodbridge and Ipswich that are both in the English top 100. If you haven't played Thorpeness it is well worth a visit.

    Great layout

Great layout, every hole was interesting and different. Some challenged your driving ability with narrow fairways on long par 4's, some challenged course management with well structured doglegs, and then some were more about the short game with heavily bunkered small greens on short par 4's. Overall the greens were excellent for a course with a hotel and ran very true.

Coastal heathland course - not a links!

The course was not quite what I expected, but was a good layout and in great condition. There are many interesting holes and I will definitely play it again.
