The parkland design at Ely City Golf Club is the handiwork of the famous course designer, Henry Cotton. The layout cleverly brings the natural hazards and trees into play, which then demand straight driving and accurate irons if they are to be avoided. A number of holes have the additional test of water both off the tee and, more often, on approach to the undulating greens. The clay-like subsoil means that conditions are always superb with drainage not being an issue and allowing for playable conditions, even in the winter months.
